Black Friday Sales Cause Security Officers Injuries

At least four security officers have been injured during Black Friday including a stabbing and an officer who received a broken nose.

Other loss prevention and retail security agents are reporting numerous fights, shopliftings and at least six robberies of customers.

 

Black Friday proved to be troublesome at several of the retailer's outlets, with at least two dozen shoppers injured and several arrests stemming from overzealous shopping, robberies and other incidents.

 

 

Chicago IL A Sears's security officer was stabbed during a melee in the store early Friday morning. Police are not sure if the incident began with a shoplifting. The security officer was taken to a local hospital in good condition.

 

Milford CT Security Teen shoplifter had to be subdued using a police Taser. The 17 year old was taken into custody after mall security and police tackled him fleeing with cologne and clothes from several stores.

 

Bergen County NJ Security Police say a mall security officer received a broken nose and swollen eye during a confrontation with several males who was involved in pushing and punching several shoppers.

The security officer tried to detain the unidentified man for police when he was punched in the face several times.

 

Los Angeles CA.Security Police said that about 20 customers, including kids, suffered minor injuries at a Los Angeles Walmart after they were pepper sprayed by a shopper. Police, who are still searching for the woman, say she used the pepper spray to gain an edge over fellow shoppers vying for discounted Xbox video game players.

 

San Leandro, Calif.Security A shopper at a Walmart was shot at 1:45 a.m. after he and family members resisted two armed men trying to steal purchases. The unidentified victim was in critical but stable condition and expected to survive. Police arrested Tony Phillips, 20, for attempted homicide and robbery.

 

Among other incidents plaguing Walmart:

Two South Carolina shoppers were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot near a Hilton Head Island Walmart.

 

In upstate New York, two women were injured in altercations that broke out at a Rome Walmart that had just let Black Friday shoppers into its electronics department. One man was charged with disorderly conduct.

Phoenix AZ In the suburb of Buckeye, Walmart shopper Jerald Allen Newman was roughed up by police as he put a video game in the waistband of his pants as he tried to lift his grandson so he wouldn't be trampled by a crowd. Witnesses told Phoenix TV station KSAZ that police thought the 54-year-old grandfather was stealing the video game.

 

Kinston, N.C., Security an early Friday scuffle erupted between Walmart customers trying to snap up cellphones marked down from $200 to $35. An off-duty Kinston police officer working security for the store pepper sprayed several consumers. One unidentified shopper was arrested.

 

*Police used a stun gun to subdue Walmart shopper Brian Shellnutt in Milford, Conn., after he allegedly hit another shopper in a Thursday night fight while waiting to buy video games. Shellnutt, 26, faces assault and other charges.

 

*A man was arrested in a scuffle at a jewelry counter at a Kissimmee, Fla., Walmart. And near Muskegon, MI., a teen suffered minor injuries after being knocked over and stepped on repeatedly in a consumer rush to the electronics department.

 

Sacramento CASecurity A fight at a mall left one man stabbed after an altercation at a Macy's store at the Arden Fair Mall. Police are searching for a suspect.

 

Nashville TN.  Security About 20 Occupy Nashville protestors were ejected at the Green Hills Mall after they began chanting and causing a disturbance Friday afternoon.

Police and mall security escorted them off the premises.

 

Dayton OH.   Security A security officer fell down stairs during a pushing match with shoppers. He was not seriously injured.

 

Hyattsville MD  One man was killed and six others were injured after they were hit by a car in a Home Depot parking lot in Hyattsville on Thursday, authorities said.

Three other men remained hospitalized in serious condition after they were hit in the parking lot on East-West Highway, according to Prince George's County Fire and Rescue authorities. Two others had minor injuries, authorities said.

The men were hit when a car that was leaving the parking lot swerved out of control.

The driver, an unidentified man in his 60s, suffered a medical emergency and blacked out as he was leaving the parking lot, according to Hyattsville Police spokesman Chris Purvis.

 

Cave Creek, Ariz. Security, Maricopa County, sheriff's deputies said a robot removed a suspicious device that led to the evacuation of a Wal-Mart store.

Deputies told KPHO-TV of Phoenix that they had reason to believe the device might have been an explosive and said whoever left it in a refrigerator at the store Thursday could face felony charges.

 

West Des Moines, Iowa Security Police said they were investigating a shooting in the parking lot of Valley West Mall . There was no immediate report that anyone was injured.

 

Myrtle Beach, S.C Security A 55-year-old shopper was shot and wounded during a robbery near a Wal-Mart in Myrtle Beach, S.C., NBC station WMBF reported.

Tonia Robbins, 55, was shot in the foot after two men demanded her purse shortly after 1 a.m. ET Friday as she stood by the trunk of her car with friends.

 

Fayetteville NC Security Authorities say gunfire erupted at a North Carolina mall as holiday shoppers gathered. Stores remained closed and some shoppers left as police searched for several armed men.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says detectives are looking for two suspects after gunfire rang out at Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville early Friday.
